February 10, 2010
Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
February is upon us already! It is hard to believe that next week we celebrate Ash Wednesday and begin our Season of Lent. As this Holy Season becomes part of our lives, we are reminded that our CFF sessions are drawing to a close. Allow me to take this opportunity to let you know what your child's remaining sessions will cover.
February 17, 2010 - Ash Wednesday Service at 6:30 p.m. in Church
All families are to attend Ash Wednesday Mass. There will be NO CFF classes on this night.
February 23 & 24, 2010 - 'Together in Faith' Event:
"The Magnificent Seven: Anointing of the Sick" from 5:30 - 7:45 p.m. at the Church
All families are to attend the 'Together in Faith' Event on either Tuesday or Wednesday evening. Please turn in your registration form that you received in the mail. There is no fee for CFF families.
March 3, 2010 - Chapter 16: Jesus' Work of Healing & the Season of Lent
During this session, the children will explore the healing ministry of Jesus. The catechist will reinforce what they learned from last week's 'Together in Faith' event - about how the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick helps us place our trust in God and strengthens us spiritually and gives us peace as we battle illness. In addition to the Sacrament of Anointing, the children will discuss the importance of receiving God's forgiveness along with forgiving others. Also during this session, the children will spend part of the class time discussing the Season of Lent. The focus will be about how we can talk and listen to God using Scripture.
March 10, 2010 - Chapter 17: Called to Serve & Week 4 of Lent
This chapter focuses on the Sacraments of Service - Holy Orders and Matrimony. It will help the children understand that we are all called in different ways to serve God and the Church. They will discuss ways to use their talents and gifts to live as followers of Jesus. The Season of Lent segment will help the children understand that Lent gives us the opportunity to grow closer to Jesus by striving to live the Gospel better. They will discuss ways we can be good stewards of all that God has entrusted to us.
March 17, 2010 - Chapter 7: The Death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus
During this session, the children will focus on the journey of Jesus' Death, Resurrection and Ascension. They will learn the meaning of Passover and become familiar with the story of the Passion and will discuss how we live our faith in this Paschal Mystery. The catechist will also share Pope John Paul II meditations on the Stations of the Cross.
March 24, 2010 - Lenten Reconciliation Service at 6:30 p.m. in Church
Parents and children in grades 2 - 11 are encouraged to attend the Lenten Reconciliation Service at Church. There will be NO CFF classes held.
March 31, 2010 - Holy Week and the Triduum
This special season lesson will help the children learn what happens on Palm Sunday and the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter). They will discuss what we will see and how we worship during the holiest days of the year. And they will have the opportunity to watch the Passion Narratives using the FAITH FIRST video for fifth grade.
April 7, 2010 - Easter Break
There will be no CFF classes this week.
April 13 & 14, 2010 - 'Together in Faith' Event: "The Magnificent Seven -
The Sacraments of Service: Holy Orders and Matrimony" from 5:30 - 7:45 p.m. at Church
All families are to attend the 'Together in Faith' Event on Tuesday or Wednesday evening. There is no charge for CFF families attending any 'Together in Faith' event.
This will be our last CFF session for the 2009 - 2010 school year.
In addition to the above lessons, we will be reviewing with the children, their grade level prayers during the month of March. We would welcome any parents or grandparents, as well as high school students, to help us with this task. Please contact me through the CFF office at 468-5718 if you are interested.
Thank you for all your support throughout the year!
Sincerely,
Joanne Adrians, CFF Facilitator, Grades PreK - 5
