CFF Parent Letters - Grade 3; February 2010

February 10, 2010

Dear Third Grade Parents,

February is upon us already! It is hard to believe that next week we celebrate Ash Wednesday and begin our Season of Lent. As this Holy Season becomes part of our lives, we are reminded that our CFF sessions are drawing to a close. Allow me to take this opportunity to let you know what your child's remaining sessions will cover.

            February 17, 2010 - Ash Wednesday Service at 6:30 p.m. in Church

All families are to attend Ash Wednesday Mass. There will be NO CFF classes on this night.

            February 23 & 24, 2010 - 'Together in Faith' Event:

"The Magnificent Seven: Anointing of the Sick" from 5:30 - 7:45 p.m. at the Church

All families are to attend the 'Together in Faith' Event on either Tuesday or Wednesday

evening. Please turn in your registration form that you received in the mail. There is no fee for CFF families.

            March 3, 2010 - Chapter 12: We Celebrate God's Healing Love

During this session, the children will enrich their understanding of the Sacraments of Healing; Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. The catechist will reinforce what they learned at last week's 'Together in Faith' event - about how the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick helps us place our trust in God and strengthens us spiritually and gives us peace as we battle illness. In addition to the Sacrament of Anointing, the catechist will help the children learn more about the Sacrament of Reconciliation - the celebration of God's love and forgiveness. They will discuss what God does for us when we are sorry for things we may have said or done. They will also discuss how we ask and receive forgiveness from God and others.

March 10, 2010 - The Season of Lent & the Stations of the Cross Devotion

This week's session will focus on the Season of Lent, in particular, the aspect of how Lent gives us the opportunity to deepen our closeness with Jesus through prayer. They will discuss how we can grow closer to God when we pray together as well as when we pray alone. The children will be introduced to a Lenten devotion of praying the Stations of the Cross - Jesus' journey to Calvary. The third grade classes will be able to pray this devotion as a group using an age appropriate version of this devotion. Family members are invited to attend this session.

            March 17, 2010 - The Season of Lent, Weeks 4 & 5

During this session, the classes will focus on two other important aspects of Lent - helping others and reconciling ourselves with God and man. Using the story of Martin and the Beggar, the children will discuss and come to understand that what we do for others, we do for Jesus. The children will also spend time this session talking about how God always welcomes us back and rejoices with us when we are truly sorry and seek forgiveness.

            March 24, 2010 - Lenten Reconciliation Service at 6:30 p.m. in Church

Parents and children in grades 2 - 11 are encouraged to attend the Lenten Reconciliation Service at Church. There will be NO CFF classes held.

March 31, 2010 - Holy Week and the Triduum

This special season lesson will help the children learn what happens on Palm Sunday and the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter). They will discuss what we will see and how we worship during the holiest days of the year.

            April 7, 2010 - Easter Break

There will be no CFF classes this week.

            April 13 & 14, 2010 - 'Together in Faith' Event: "The Magnificent Seven -

The Sacraments of Service: Holy Orders and Matrimony" from 5:30 - 7:45 p.m. at Church

All families are to attend the 'Together in Faith' Event on Tuesday or Wednesday evening. There is no charge for CFF families attending any 'Together in Faith' event.

This will be our last CFF session for the 2009 - 2010 school year.

In addition to the above lessons, we will be reviewing with the children, their grade level prayers during the month of March. We would welcome any parents or grandparents, as well as high school students, to help us with this task. Please contact me through the CFF office at 468-5718 if you are interested.

Thank you for all your support throughout the year!

Sincerely,

Joanne Adrians, CFF Facilitator, Grades PreK - 5
