February 10, 2010

Dear Second Grade Parents,

February is upon us already! It is hard to believe that next week we celebrate Ash Wednesday and begin our Season of Lent. As this Holy Season becomes part of our lives, we are reminded that our CFF sessions are drawing to a close. Allow me to take this opportunity to let you know what your child's remaining sessions will cover.

            March 3, 2010 - Chapter 16: The Last Supper: A Scripture Story

During this session, the children will recall that Jesus, at the Last Supper, gave us the gift of himself in the Eucharist. This chapter will help them develop a deeper understanding of why we gather around the altar and give thanks to God for all his gifts.

March 10, 2010 - Chapter 17: We Give Thanks to God

This chapter will focus on what it means to receive the Eucharist. The children will discuss what gifts we thank God for at Mass, what happens during the Eucharistic Prayer, and how we are called to live each day as a follower of Jesus.

March 17, 2010 - Chapter 8: The Traveler on the Road to Emmaus: A Scripture Story

This lesson will introduce the Emmaus Scripture Story as a story about the Eucharist. The catechist will help the children recognize the similarities of this story and what happens at Mass. They will also review what happens during reconciliation in preparation for next week's Lenten Reconciliation Service.
