CFF Parent Letters Grade 1; February 2010

February 10, 2010

Dear First Grade Parents,

February is upon us already! It is hard to believe that next week we celebrate Ash Wednesday and begin our Season of Lent. As this Holy Season becomes part of our lives, we are reminded that our CFF sessions are drawing to a close. Allow me to take this opportunity to let you know what your child's remaining sessions will cover.

All families are to attend Ash Wednesday Mass. There will be NO CFF classes on this night.

            February 23 & 24, 2010 - 'Together in Faith' Event:

            March 3, 2010 - Chapter 11: The Church's Celebrations & the Lenten Season

This session will focus on what the Sacraments are and how they help us as Christians. The

children will discuss the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick and review what they have learned from the 'Together in Faith' Event. They will also learn about the Sacrament of Baptism - what symbols are used, how Baptism is celebrated, and how we are change through this Sacrament. The Lenten lesson this week will focus on how the Season of Lent helps us focus on prayer: prayers of praise and thanksgiving, and praying for others.

March 10, 2010 - Chapter 9: The First Corinthians Follow Jesus: A Scripture Story & Lent

During this session, the children will learn about the first Christians and how they lived and followed Jesus. They will discuss ways that we can show that we are Christians also. The Lenten lesson this week will focus on how the Season of Lent helps us grow as followers of Jesus.

March 17, 2010 - Chapter 15: We Live as Children of God & the Fifth Week of Lent

This session will focus on what it means to be and live as a child of God. They will discuss how God created and loves us; and how we, as children of God, respect all life as God's creation. They will brainstorm ways we can show our love for God. During the Lenten part of this session, the children will learn about forgiveness and reconciliation. They will discuss how we can grow as people who forgive others just as God forgives us.

            March 24, 2010 - Lenten Reconciliation Service at 6:30 p.m. in Church

Parents and children in grades 2 - 11 are encouraged to attend the Lenten Reconciliation Service at Church. There will be NO CFF classes held.

March 31, 2010 - Holy Week and the Triduum

This special season lesson will help the children learn what happens on Palm Sunday and the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter). They will discuss what we will see and how we worship during the holiest days of the year.

This will be our last CFF session for the 2009 - 2010 school year.

In addition to the above lessons, we will be reviewing with the children, their grade level prayers during the month of March. We would welcome any parents or grandparents, as well as high school students, to help us with this task. Please contact me through the CFF office at 468-5718 if you are interested.

Thank you for all your support throughout the year!

Sincerely,
